Education

Paul graduated with honors from Dormont High School in 1953. He then attended Gettysburg College and received a bachelor's degree in biology in 1957. Paul attended Duke University School of Medicine and graduated in 1961. He became an intern and resident in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. During his residency, Paul was drafted to the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis, where he served as a flight surgeon and attained the rank of captain. Paul finished his residency at the University of Pittsburgh, where he switched his field to ob/gyn.
