Summary

George W. Bush enacted the Patriot Act in 2001 as a purported means of fighting terrorism. It allows the government to search the private information, including telelphone, medical, email and financial records, of US citizens. The act also allows the term terrorism to be applied to domestic acts, and includes numerous clauses.
