The Death Penalty (Capital Punishment) is execution as punishment for a person's crime. Countries that have the highest number of state-sanctioned executions include China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, the United States and Iraq.

The United States should not execute people as retribution for their crimes.

Position: The death penalty should be used in only the most extreme circumstances.

The death penalty should be used only for the very worst and most inexcusable crimes. It should be used very rarely.

People who have committed the most horrendous crimes deserve to die for their crimes.
