Issue: Guantanamo Bay

Summary

Guantanamo Bay is a detention camp located at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. The U.S. uses the base to hold people suspected of terrorism, more than two thirds of whom have been released without charge. The U.S. holds the prisoners without trial, and originally attempted to withold provisions granted by the Geneva Conventions, calling the prisoners "enemy combatants."

Position: Shut it down

Guantanamo Bay represents blatant ignorance of human rights, specifically those granted by the US Constitution and the Geneva Conventions.

Position: Enemy combatants should not be afforded the same rights as US citizens or afforded in the Geneva Conventions

Guantanamo Bay houses potentially extremely dangerous terrorists. These people are not acting with permission from their countries and therefore do not deserve the same rights as POWs.
